Description
Silver oil cruet stand, Marseille 1750–1756 Master Silversmith: Louis-Lazare Martin, admitted to the guild in 1737 The tray, with moulded contours and filleted edges, features arched handles joined by a bead in the centre. It rests on four ‘forked’ feet, featuring scrollwork and shell-shaped fastenings. The bottle holders and stopper holder are secured with olive-shaped rivets. The console-style uprights are openwork. The stoppers, with a double-curved rim, are surmounted by a seed-shaped finial coiled within a wreath of leaves. The flasks, each with a handle, are made of glass engraved with garlands and fleurons. Dimensions of the tray: Length: 30 cm, width: 19 cm, height: 10 cm Height of the vials: 17 cm Weight: 951 g. Reference: a similar piece by the same master silversmith is held in the Louvre Museum’s collections under inventory number OA 11821, formerly from the Jourdan-Barry Collection.
