Silver chalice. Rennes, 1750
Master Silversmith: Pierre II Buchet, admitted to the guild in 1720
The round, gadrooned base supports the central knob, which is adorned with an alternating pattern of shells and acanthus leaves, embossed and chiselled on an amati background, and surmounted by a cross. The baluster-shaped stem, framed by two plain scalloped collars, is decorated at the base with a frieze of ovals and channels, and in the upper section with an alternation of shells, fleurons and rocaille cartouches on an amati ground. The plain baluster-shaped bowl is vermeilled on the inside.
Distortion and minor knocks at the base.
