Description
An important pair of porcelain vases. Paris, late Restoration period, circa 1840–1850. Baluster-shaped, with painted decoration on a dark beige ground, featuring large bouquets of multicoloured flowers. These are arranged within large panels, encircled by a wide ribbon in lustrous amati gold, adorned with a frieze of medallions. The base of the vase, midnight blue in colour, is enhanced by a rich gold-coloured decoration consisting of a wave-like pattern punctuated by fleurons, which extends up to the neck. These vases rest on a gilded bronze plinth edged with two rows of beads, and on the body, between the medallions, there are two small gilded bronze appliqués depicting a twig bearing a few ivy leaves. In perfect condition, with the original gilding on the bronze. Height: 52 cm.
