Description
Jean DEMOULIN (1715–1798), admitted as a master craftsman in Paris around 1749 and again in Dijon in 1780.
A flat, ornate writing desk in veneered wood, accented with a band of gilded copper. It features three drawers running along the sides and rests on curved legs. The top is covered in fawn-coloured leather with small iron inlays.
Ornamentation of chiselled and gilded bronze foliage motifs, including: ingot moulds, pull handles, lock plates, finials and feet.
Stamped J. DEMOULIN and JME.
Louis XV period.

Some missing veneer, with some bronze fittings replaced. Repairs to the back panels.
Biography:
Jean DEMOULIN (1715–1798), a cabinetmaker from Dijon who, after a spell in Paris working for MIGEON, returned to Burgundy and became cabinetmaker to the Prince of Condé. He obtained his first master’s certificate in Paris around 1749, then a second in Dijon in 1780, where he went into partnership with his two sons.
