Description
A writing desk in veneered wood with richly decorated marquetry within Greek-cornered frames on the front and sides, depicting bouquets of fruit and flowers tied with ribbons, alongside musical motifs framed by drapery. It opens at the top with a drawer; a drop-down panel in the centre reveals a section comprising four drawers and four compartments; and at the bottom, two doors open to reveal four drawers. The drop-down panel forms a writing desk, covered in green leather with a gilded decoration featuring a frieze of posts in fine filigree. The chamfered side panels are decorated with simulated fluting. Gilded bronze ornamentation, including drop mouldings, lamp bases and lock plates. The top is of veined white marble, moulded in a cove profile. Louis XVI period. Height: 134 cm. Width: 81 cm. Depth: 37 cm. Normal signs of wear; the rear right-hand corner of the marble is chipped.
