A clock depicting Jason and the Golden Fleece in patinated and gilt-bronze, first half of the 19th century Jason, standing in military uniform, holds the Golden Fleece in his left hand; the movement and dial are set against a rocky backdrop; the rectangular base is decorated with foliage friezes. (slight oxidation, no key, no balance wheel, no guarantee of working order), 22.3cm wide, 8.5cm deep, 29cm high (8 1/2in wide, 3in deep, 11in high). A prince deprived of his throne, Jason undertakes the quest for the Golden Fleece in order to reclaim it. Gathering around fifty heroes from across Greece, he embarks aboard the ship Argo and leads the expedition of the Argonauts. Subjected to numerous trials, he ultimately succeeds, largely through the assistance of the sorceress Medea, who falls in love with him.
