Description
Porcelain plate with a coat of arms design for the French market (Philibert Orry). China. Yongzheng period (1723–1735), circa 1725 – Decorated in ‘Famille Rose’ enamels, with the Orry coat of arms in the centre of the plate, Gules, a lion rampant ascending a rock argent, within a rich rocaille cartouche, the wing featuring Regency-style ornamentation. One plate (now in the collection of the Musée de la Compagnie des Indes) was exhibited at the ‘China at Versailles’ exhibition in 2014. Only two commissions bearing coats of arms were on display: that of Philibert Orry (see nos. 32 and 33 in the exhibition catalogue) and that of King Louis XV. Dimensions: 25.5 cm. Very good condition
