Description
Porcelain plate with a coat-of-arms design for the Dutch market (De Famars and Vriesen), China. Qianlong period (1736–1795), circa 1752/1755. The plate is decorated with a gold border on the rim, a frieze of spearheads on the cavetto, and in the centre, the dexter coat of arms of De Famars, comprising four quarters: 1st and 4th, on a black field, seven gold fleurs-de-lis; 2nd and 3rd, on a white field, a black eagle standing upright. The Vreisen coat of arms on the left, on a black background, features a white band with three black cow’s heads. Dr Kroes attributes the commission for this table service to Jan Willem de Famars (1715–1785) of Lingen. A chip in the centre of the plate; some signs of wear. Diameter: 23 cm
