Description
A chiselled and gilded bronze clock, known as the ‘military camp’ clock, decorated with an officer in uniform and symbols of war such as bombards, cannons, standards, lictor’s fasces and cannonballs. Beneath a tent topped with a plume, the dial, signed GOJARD, displays the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals. The plinth is bordered by a frieze of ivy leaves and rests on small spindle-shaped feet. Late 18th century; early 19th century. H. 44 cm – W. 33 cm – D. 15 cm (chips to the dial; damage and wear).
