An important and antique carpet from Aubusson, France, Restoration period, circa 1815. Emerald-green field with branches (natural variation in the wool), featuring a mosaic design of star-shaped flowers in a honeycomb pattern framing a large circular central medallion with wreaths of stylised flowers and foliage in polychrome. Framed by a pattern of zigzag-shaped, crenellated stems in a cube motif inlaid with multicoloured floral buds. Anthracite border with old gold foliage, twisted mouldings inlaid with finely drawn leaves. Needlework. Tapestry technique using woollen threads on a cotton ground.
