A chiselled and gilded bronze clock known as the ‘astronomy lesson’ clock, decorated with two young women seated in Etruscan-style armchairs, consulting books, an armillary sphere and a map. They are leaning on a draped table supporting the dial, signed by Lefévre, successor to De Belle in Paris. It rests on a base decorated with putti supporting a quiver of scientific instruments flanked by a telescope and a world map. Six small spindle-shaped feet. Empire period. Attributed to Claude Galle (1759–1815) after a design by Jean-André Reiche (1752–1817). H. 34 cm – W. 38 cm – D. 12 cm (damage and missing parts; sphere needs reattaching)
