(INCUNABULUM). MONT-ROCHER, Guy de (Guidonis de Monte Rocherii). Manipulus curatorum [Manual for parish priests]. Lyon: Guillaume Balsarin, c. 1490. In-8; Gothic type, 35 lines per page. 114 ff. (out of 116): missing the title page (a1, which presumably contains only a few words) and folio a8. Collation: a(2–7), b–c(1–8), d(1–7), e–o(1–8), p(1–5). Later binding (probably 18th century) in speckled sheepskin, spine with unmarked raised bands. Marginal wormholes in the first part of the volume, without damage to the text; soiling on pages e1v–e2r, slight but insignificant water-stain in the upper part of most leaves, first leaf browned. A few annotations and small marginal drawings from the period by an attentive reader (g3 and g5). Numerous initials painted in red. A fine copy with wide margins of this manual for parish priests, written in the early fourteenth century to provide priests with essential knowledge of the sacraments. Although some 22 incunabula editions of this manual are known to exist, this particular edition appears to be extremely rare, and we have found no record of it in the CCFR. The printer’s mark at the end of the volume is that of Guillaume Balsarin, a Lyon-based printer active in that city from 1482 to 1499. Handwritten ex-libris by Petri Vigne.
