Jean de Paleolugu, known as Pal (1860–1942) – Falcon, the Franco-American bicycle. 1894. Printed by Paul Dupont, Paris. Original poster, lithograph, mounted on canvas. 144.5 × 105 cm. Condition A-, minor flaws in the mounting with a small restoration in the right-hand margin. Small stains in the upper section. The Belle Époque was the golden age of cycling in Europe. Hundreds of brands sprang up to meet customer demand and to continually refine these new machines, which benefited each year from new inventions made possible by science and industry. No doubt to evoke speed and lightness, the bicycle brand chose the falcon as its emblem.
