Pablo Picasso – Vallauris Exhibition. 1962. Printer: Arnéra. Plate size: 64 x 53 cm; sheet size: 75 x 62.5 cm. Original poster, linocut print, marked ‘not for sale’ by the stamp in the bottom left-hand corner. Signed on the plate in the top right-hand corner. Mounted on canvas. Condition A–, two small, faint marks from old adhesive tape on the reverse at the edge of the bottom and right margins. It should be noted that this piece is one of the 55 original posters by Picasso, created by the artist himself. More than just an advertising poster, it is therefore above all a large-format original linocut by the artist, and a reminder that his work as a draughtsman is not limited to Cubism alone. Our copy is all the more rare as it forms part of a non-commercial print run of 120 copies intended to be retained by the printer. Whilst this poster promotes local ceramics, it does not, however, feature his own works from Ramié. It was commissioned by the Vallauris Potters’ Association, in the Alpes-Maritimes, for which he produced other designs. Picasso’s arrival in this village helped to shine a spotlight on local craft and the emergence of potters such as Capron, Picault, Derval and Anton Prinner… References: - Pablo Picasso Plakate.
