Loïc Le Floc’h, alias Fenx, is a visual artist born in the mid-1970s and living in Paris.
His work unfolds as an intimate narrative, permeated by echoes of his emotional, cultural and iconographic past. Emerging from the subcultures in which he was actively involved, Fenx forges a personal aesthetic where memory, rigour and spontaneity converge.
Advocating a return to ‘beauty’ combined with a reflection on the precision of the gesture, he creates minimalist works, stripped of the superfluous, in which the viewer’s gaze is invited to fill in the gaps.
His initial interest in flat painting and vector art was part of an era marked by the rise of digital technology and computer graphics software. This was the art of his time, born of the language of computing, where the reduction of data and the simplification of forms responded to a new aesthetic, born of technology. This period shaped his sense of structure, clarity and colour – the foundations upon which he still builds his artistic approach today.
Over time, Fenx has gradually moved away from this approach towards a more gestural and organic style, where texture, spontaneity and chance interact with masterful linework and precise blocks of colour. This tension between control and freedom gives rise to a body of work that is instantly recognisable, unified by meaningful colour palettes and a constant balance between form and content. In his work, Fenx continues his quest for a delicate balance between control and chaos, figuration and abstraction, construction and spontaneity — a pictorial dialogue that lends his work an almost musical tension, at once masterful and vibrant.
The female figure occupies a central place in her work.
She embodies both the call towards the other and a fascination with beauty, conveying a poetic attraction imbued with elegance and restraint. Fenx’s nudes are neither voyeuristic nor idealised: they express a sensitive exploration of otherness, where sensuality remains implied, never imposed.
Her recent works revisit a dreamt-of America – the America of the images, music and myths of her youth – which has become an inner space where memory, imagination and emotion intersect.
