Description
Julien RAYNAUD (born in 1987) "Indian Summer", 2022 Mixed media on canvas, signed lower right. H_120 cm - W_120 cm Born in 1987, Julien Raynaud is a French painter whose distinctive artistic world revolves around colour, geometry and emotion. Since his debut in 2011, he has developed an instantly recognisable pictorial language, inspired by encounters, travels, love stories and personal experiences. His work, situated at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, explores the many facets of existence through vibrant compositions in which forms intertwine and colours interact. Behind an apparent spontaneity lies a meticulous search for balance, rhythm and light. Over the years, Julien Raynaud has gradually developed his artistic style. Initially characterised by rigorous geometric composition and an intense colour palette, his works have evolved towards a freer, more instinctive form of expression, making increasing room for gesture and emotion. In 2023, his solo exhibition ‘Sans filtres’, presented at the Galerie Outsiders in Rouen, marked a major turning point in his career. The artist thus broke free from certain formal constraints to explore a more spontaneous and expressive form of abstraction. Colour became a language in its own right, capable of conveying his emotions with a new intensity. This period of creative freedom paved the way for a new phase in his pictorial exploration. From 2024 onwards, Julien Raynaud set out to reconnect with the geometric fundamentals that had shaped his artistic identity, whilst retaining the spontaneity and energy acquired during his abstract experiments. This fusion of compositional mastery and freedom of gesture reflects an approach that is constantly evolving. Far from confining himself to a fixed style, the artist continues an exploration in which each new work constitutes a dialogue between his various creative periods. In 2026, after fifteen years of artistic practice, Julien Raynaud asserted a mature pictorial identity, driven by a constant quest for harmony between structure, colour and emotion. His work retains the profoundly human dimension that has characterised it since his early days: a resolutely vibrant, luminous and optimistic style of painting. Throughout his career, his work has been exhibited in France and internationally, notably in Paris, Monaco, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. His works have also found their way into numerous private collections, reflecting collectors’ interest in his unique artistic world.
