Description
Niki DE SAINT PHALLE (1930–2002) “Ganesh”, 1993 Sculpture in polyester resin, polyurethane paint, gold leaf, five light bulbs, electrical system. Metal plinth. Metal signature stamp and proof of authenticity 4/4 EA on the base of one foot. Stamp of the publisher Haligon. 110 x 45 x 48 cm. Very slight signs of wear. ‘Ganesh’ is representative of Niki de Saint Phalle’s work at that time, which was characterised by her exploration of deities and the sacred, notably influenced by her trip to India and her work on the Tarot Garden. This lamp-sculpture perfectly illustrates her mastery of coloured resin and precious materials such as gold leaf. It synthesises her joyful pop art world with the kinetic and light-based experiments she shared with her partner Jean Tinguely. OH
