Description
Ferdinand BERTHOUD in Paris (1727-1807) Gold 750‰ gousset watch, decorated on the back with an enamelled miniature, depicting a woman of quality, watching for a dove carrying a crown of roses in its beak. Framed in brown/red translucent enamel on a guilloché ground with a lenticular motif, bordered by enamelled trompe-l'œil half pearls. White enamelled dial, Roman and Arabic minute numerals, mechanical cock movement, hand-wound with key. Dial and movement signed. Last third of the 18th century. (missing enamel at the winding point on the dial and some missing enamelled pearls). Gross weight: 53.50 g - ø: 40 mm Ferdinand Berthoud was an outstanding watchmaker, who became a Master Watchmaker in Paris at the age of 26. He was mechanical watchmaker to the King and the Navy, and was awarded the Légion d'Honneur by Napoleon.
