Study of Drapery
mixed media, plaster, textile
Olivier Brice (1933–1989), born Yves Moïse Asséraf, was a French sculptor whose work was deeply influenced by the themes of death, memory and time. He first made a name for himself with his *Antiques Drapés*, a series in which he wrapped classical casts from the Louvre Museum in black shrouds coated with fish glue, creating a striking funerary contrast. He subsequently moved on to the ‘Gisants’, using life-size body casts, before exploring other techniques for capturing time. Also a fashion designer, he ran the famous Valsuani art foundry. He designed Jean-Bedel Bokassa’s imperial throne in 1977
