Agostino Beltrano worked in Naples alongside Giovanni Lanfranco and Artemisia Gentileschi. He was a pupil and later a friend of Massimo Stanzione. He married Diana di Rosa, sister of Pacecco di Rosa. Beltrano produced frescoes and paintings on canvas to decorate churches in and around Naples, oscillating between the aesthetics of Massimo Stanzione and Filippo Vitale. Our painting is marked by a naturalistic atmosphere, bold colours and distinctive modelling.
