François-Louis de Bourbon, 4th Prince de Conti, was the son of Armand de Bourbon and Anne-Marie Martinozzi. Nicknamed the "Great Conti", the prince distinguished himself through a brilliant military and political career; a great collector, he owned paintings by Mignard and Jouvenet and a bust by Coysevox. Following the death of Jean Sobieski, he was elected King of Poland in 1697. That same year, Rigaud's large full-length portrait of him was included in the list of accounts. (See A. James-Sarazin with the collaboration of J.-Y. Sarazin, Hyacinthe Rigaud 1659-1743. Catalogue raisonné tome 2, Dijon, 2016, n° *P. 515)
