JOSEPH KREUTZINGER (Vienna, 1757-1829) PORTRAIT OF THE ARCHDUKE CHARLES-LOUIS OF AUSTRIA-TESCHEN (1771-1847) IN TROMPE-L'OEIL ENGRAVING Canvas Portrait of Archduke Charles of Austria-Teschen, in trompe l'oeil engraving, canvas 37,5 x 25,5 CM - 14,7 x 10 IN. Joseph Kreutzinger was a portrait painter, miniature painter and engraver. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and then in Munich and spent 1793 in St Petersburg. On his return to Vienna, he worked as a court portraitist and engraver. Archduke Charles of Austria was the brother of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, and Marie-Antoinette's nephew. In our painting, he wears the uniform of imperial marshal and the insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece, the Grand Cross star and the belt of the Military Order of Maria Theresa. Our painting was engraved by Franz-Valentin Durner (1766-1835) in 1798.
