BEAUBRUN Charles (Attributed to) (1604–1692) Presumed portrait of the Grande Mademoiselle as Diana the Huntress against a park setting Oil on canvas (Relined; small losses in the lower section; restorations). H.144 - W 116.5 cm Blackened wooden frame Old label bearing the name of Charles Beaubrun. Provenance: Douai, Auction House, 1935 (or 1936), catalogue no. 163, Beaubrun (Charles 1604–1692) Portrait of the Grande Mademoiselle as Diana the Huntress. Undated handwritten document by Clavière, expert at the Civil Court of the Seine, stating that “this painting is indisputably authentic from the time of Master Beaubrun”. La Grande Mademoiselle: Anne Marie Louise d’Orléans, Duchess of Montpensier, known as the Grande Mademoiselle, born on 29 May 1627 at the Louvre Palace and died on 5 April 1693 at the Luxembourg Palace, was one of the leading figures of the French court nobility during the Grand Siècle. Daughter of Gaston d’Orléans, granddaughter of Henry IV and first cousin of Louis XIV. INCLUDED: - an autograph letter (unrelated to the painting) dated 20 May 1675, from the painter Henri BEAUBRUN (1603–1677), cousin of Charles BEAUBRUN, with whom he collaborated on numerous occasions to produce joint portraits. - an autograph letter (unrelated to the painting) from Anne-Marie-Louis d’Orléans, known as La Grande Mademoiselle, addressed to Chancellor Séguires, dated 29 August 1956.
