Description
André RIALLE (1924–2005): The Village. Oil on hardboard, signed in the bottom right-hand corner. (Unframed). Dimensions: 75 x 53 cm. Born in La Voulte-sur-Rhône in 1924, André Rialle lived almost all his life in Avignon. A student at the city’s School of Fine Arts from 1934 to 1942, he became a craftsman but retained a passion for painting. He was a member of the Candelié group. Influenced by Albert Gleize, his style—which was highly figurative in the early days—evolved towards Cubism and abstraction, as seen in his later paintings. Towards the end of his career, he developed a highly decorative aesthetic characterised by bright, vibrant colours. He died in Avignon in 2005.
