Description
André RIALLE (1924–2005): Abstraction, inspired by Albert GLEIZE. Oil on hardboard, signed lower right. Dimensions: 75 x 42.5 cm. Born in La Voulte-sur-Rhône in 1924, André Rialle lived almost all his life in Avignon. A student at the city’s School of Fine Arts from 1934 to 1942, he went on to work as a craftsman, though he remained passionate about painting. He was a member of the Candelié group. Influenced by Albert Gleize, his style – which was highly figurative in the early days – evolved towards Cubism and abstraction, as seen in his later paintings. Towards the end of his career, he developed a highly decorative aesthetic characterised by bright, vibrant colours. He died in Avignon in 2005.
