Description
A large trumeau mirror featuring moulded, carved and gilded woodwork against a green and grey lacquered background, decorated with laurel leaves, twisted ribbons and bunches of grapes. The mirror is surmounted by a high-relief carving depicting ‘leafy mermaids’, a vase of flowers and foliage scrolls. The pediment features a heart-shaped motif and dentils. The side panels are adorned with a pair of two-light wall sconces in gilded carved wood, decorated with foliage and putti. Italy, late 18th century. (Minor imperfections; mirror is a later addition).
