A pair of officers’ flintlock pistols. Round barrels with flat sides at the muzzles. Firing plates signed ‘Gabriel Tezenas’ and flat-bodied hammers. Plain chiselled iron mountings. Walnut stocks, carved with platine tails (chips, particularly beneath one firing plate). Wooden cleaning rod (one missing). Oxidation. A.B.E. Mid-18th century. L. 32.5 cm Two Gabriel Tezenas, from a dynasty of arquebusiers active in Saint-Étienne; one died in 1728 and the other was active around 1780. Expert: Arnaud de Gouvion Saint-Cyr
