Description
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). Single-flower vase. Engobed terracotta, known as ‘sigillata’. H_7 cm W_8 cm, irregular neck. Provenance: a private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle. Note: A ceramist from the Languedoc region, trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the boundary between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates sigillata pieces, engobed and then smoked, with surfaces worked to achieve texture and crackling, which lend depth and uniqueness to his works.
