During the First World War, he stayed in New York, where he became friends with Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia and exhibited at the Montross Gallery in 1916. In 1919, he married Suzanne Duchamp, Marcel’s sister, and took part in the Dada exhibition at the Galerie Montaigne in 1921.
