Note: Jean Volang was a painter of Vietnamese origin, renowned for his luminous landscapes and his scenes of harbours, villages and seaside settings. Born in Hué, Vietnam, he studied at the Hanoi School of Fine Arts, where he was taught by influential masters of the Indochinese school. His painting is characterised by a luminous palette, a serene atmosphere and a keen sensitivity to light. Although rooted in the European figurative tradition, his work retains influences from Vietnamese culture.
