Description
Pierre BAYLE (1945–2004). Bust of a woman. Sculpture in brown-glazed terracotta, signed and dated (19)86. H_41 cm W_17 cm D_14 cm Provenance: private collection in Occitania, belonging to a friend of Pierre Bayle. Note: A ceramist from the Languedoc region, trained in Castelnaudary, Pierre Bayle combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde experimentation, establishing ceramics as an art form in its own right, straddling the line between utilitarian and decorative objects. He creates works in sigillata clay, which are first engobed and then smoked, with surfaces worked to achieve a particular texture and crackling effect, lending his pieces depth and a unique character.
