Description
Alexis MOSSA (1844–1926). The summit of Gratteloup as seen from Le Suquet – 4 August 1909. Watercolour on paper, signed lower left, titled at the bottom and dated 4/8 09 lower left. Titled and dated on the reverse, Mossa studio stamp no. 3751. H_22.5 cm W_29 cm We would like to thank Mrs Sylvie Lombart-Mossa, a descendant of the Mossa painters and President of the Association Symbolique Mossa, who has confirmed the authenticity of the watercolours depicting landscapes by Gustave-Adolphe Mossa and Alexis Mossa. The Association Symbolique Mossa aims to raise awareness of the Mossa painters and is committed to promoting the works of Alexis, the 100th anniversary of whose death we shall be commemorating in 2027. Note: A leading figure in Côte d’Azur painting and a master of watercolour, Alexis Mossa (a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and former curator of the Nice Museum) captured with great finesse the light and heritage of the landscapes of the County of Nice, the Provençal markets, and Italy.
