Zincograph on thin vellum mounted on Arches vellum (watermark in the margin).
One of the few trial prints predating the 1952 edition marking the centenary of the Atelier Mourlot, prior to the printing of the text in red using photogravure: ‘Pour le Centenaire de Mourlot-Picasso’.
Rare.
The sheet is oxidised and slightly yellowed on both the front and back, with yellowing at the edges and a few creases from handling.
Front: very slight white discolouration on the forehead; a small mark on the left-hand edge on both the front and back (perhaps a former paper reinforcement?); a tiny fill in a black area; very slight imperfections and white spots on the surface.
On the reverse: oxidation, scattered brown spots, two traces of former mounting, slight black stains, a small vertical indentation at the bottom of the subject.

This portrait of a young woman forms part of a series of bust portraits of women from the late 1940s, which would culminate in the creation of the masterful ‘Woman in an Armchair’, a series that includes this portrait of a young woman (Mourlot 154). Picasso also produced two paintings on canvas of similar subjects in 1949.
