(⚜) KAROLVS: DEI: GRA: FRANCORVM: REX (variant). Crowned Shield of France flanked by two crowned lilies.
R/(⚜) XPC * VINCIT * XPC * REGNAT * XPC * IMPERAT (diamond). A leafy cross with an angled quatrefoil at the centre, flanked by four small crowns, within a quatrefoil. Dy 511c.
A gold shield with a crown (3rd type, 4th issue 16 May 1447/10 January 1448).
16th point = Tournai (weight: 3.39 g)
Slightly distorted obverse. Rare. Very Good.
Note: Charles VII was the son of Charles VI and Isabeau of Bavaria. A king inextricably linked with the epic story of Joan of Arc, he succeeded, during a long reign of nearly forty years – almost as long as that of his father and predecessor on the throne (1380–1422) – in turning around a precarious situation and ultimately winning the Hundred Years’ War. He was the fifth king of the Valois branch.
