Description
Crucifixion
Rectangular base made of wood with a weathered plaster finish. A sculpture in the round depicting the religious scene of the Crucifixion, with Jesus at the centre, the two thieves on either side, Saint Veronica on the right and Mary Magdalene on the left, weeping. At the foot of the cross, a Pietà is depicted. On the other side, Jonah emerges from the whale’s mouth; Saint Peter stands on the left alongside two armed guards, a saint holding a flower in her hand, and, in the centre, a saint with his hands clasped. Judas stands on one side, holding a purse, and Pontius Pilate on the other. A substantial masonry plinth with a trompe l’œil effect. A visible signature, featuring a six-pointed star.
A 20th-century work, in the style of the sculptures of Gabriel Jenny (1934–2017)
