Damage and losses. Restorations (including the horse’s tail and the beggar’s left arm).
On a cold evening in the French city of Amiens, Saint Martin came across a shivering beggar and shared his cloak with him, cutting it in two. However, the cloak was part of a Roman soldier’s kit, and half of it belonged to the emperor and half to the soldier. The saint therefore gave away everything he had. During the night, Christ appeared to him in a dream, clad in the shared piece of cloak, thanking him for his gesture.
