Description
2. 2W A Roman marble funerary plaque fragment, circa 1st Century A.D.
Preserving two partial lines of Latin inscription: L.FUNISU/VETTON
34cm high, 34cm wide
Provenance
E. van Dijk (1942-2024) Collection, Netherlands, acquired circa 1960-1995.
Literature
P. J. Sijpesteijn, Lateinische Grabinschriften III, Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik, Bd. 90 (1992), Plate XIV no.2, p.194. It is discussed that the remains of the name are reminiscent of the Emperor Vespasian's consul, L. Funisulanus Vettonianus, and could refer to a freedman of this consul or it could be interpreted that Lucius Funisulanus [?] erected a tomb for Vettonius [?] or vice versa.
