241. A group of correspondence concerning the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna (1868 - 1935)
French and Russian language correspondence, dating from the later years of the life of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, principally from the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s, comprising autograph and retained drafts, copies, accounts and telegrams, relating principally to her financial affairs and the administration of the Choigny estate. The correspondence concerns loans advanced to the Grand Duchess, the settlement of debts incurred on her behalf, and the management and expenses of the Choigny estate. Also included are letters addressed to Dr. Malama, family physician to Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich and Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, concerning financial payments and associated arrangements. The group further includes duplicate correspondence, in several instances accompanied by contemporary annotations recording dates of dispatch or receipt; Easter greetings; expressions of gratitude from recipients of financial assistance extended by the Grand Duchess; and enquiries concerning members of the Grand Ducal household. An evocative body of correspondence documenting the financial circumstances, household affairs and personal networks surrounding Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna during the final decade of her life.
