Description
Joseph CHAUMET. Circa 1918.
Necklace of fine pearls in light gradation, made up of 52 main pearls (dia between 10.15 mm and 5.85 mm) separated from each other by fine intercalary pearls. One of the pearls contains the clasp, secured by a chain.
Eagle head hallmark. Length: 46.5 cm. Gross weight: 26.24 g
The pearls have been the subject of a SSEF certificate, reproduced below, determining the characteristics of the pearls. It will be given to the buyer.
The necklace is accompanied by a rare chagrin scabbard (chamois) in a signed jewellery box. In addition to the necklace, there is a formidable piece of historical evidence of the importance of fine pearls in the jewellery market at the time. This is an extract from an account signed by Joseph Chaumet, in which each of the pearls is detailed - size, weight, value - and the necklace is also presented on two photographic prints.
