Description
A processional cross consisting of a cut-out plate decorated with geometric motifs symbolising Christ’s victory over death. In the centre is an inscription in the Ge’ez language. It was attached to the end of a pole by a cylindrical socket and was carried during processions by Coptic Christian priests. Brass. Dimensions: 37 x 24 cm. Ethiopia. Eastern Orthodox Church. 19th/20th century.
