Description
- Dancer in movement. Beige terracotta, broken and glued, restoration, mark of time. Tumaco, Ecuador-Colombia border, 500 BC - 500 AD 33 x 27.5 x 16 cm Provenance: Gaïa sale, Paris, 13 June 2007, lot no. 285 In the Tumaco-La Tolita culture, dance played an important role in ceremonial practices, often associated with collective rituals. The moving figures reflect this dynamic dimension, where the body becomes a vehicle for expression and communication. The dancer's posture, caught in a rush, reflects a desire to restore gesture and rhythm. The ensemble illustrates a tradition that is attentive to the representation of the body in action, in a structuring ritual context.
