Famakan Magassa, born in Mali in 1997, lives and works in Bamako. A graduate of the Balla Fasséké Kouyaté Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers Multimédia in 2018, he is developing a committed pictorial practice at the crossroads of everyday life and social commentary.
His works explore themes such as displacement, corruption, inequality and human relations, combining scenes from everyday life with socio-economic reflections. Through anthropomorphic figures staged with humour and irony, he highlights the contradictions of contemporary society, in particular the tension between financial value and human ties. His compositions, both accessible and incisive, question the complexity of human behaviour and affirm the role of art as a space for reflection on current social and economic issues.
His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in Africa and internationally, and was awarded the Norval Sovereign African Art Prize in 2023.
