Johnson Eziefula, born in Lagos in 1998, is one of a new generation of African artists who are redefining the contours of contemporary art. A self-taught artist, he has developed a multi-faceted practice at the crossroads of drawing and painting, which he describes as "Contemporealism", a fusion of contemporary art and hyperrealism.
His works explore questions of identity, cultural mixing and self-perception. Through portraiture, he constructs powerful images in which colours, shapes and symbols convey personal experiences. His work is both intimate and rooted in the present, offering a unique way of looking at contemporary identities.
