Marion Boehm's fascination with cultural exchange goes back to her childhood. Born in Duisburg-Rheinhausen, Germany, in 1964, she spent a decade working for Lufthansa, exploring the diverse landscapes of the world. Her nomadic lifestyle and exposure to diverse cultures laid the foundations for her subsequent artistic projects. In 2010, she moved to South Africa and settled in Johannesburg. This transition marked a turning point in her life, guiding her towards a new chapter of artistic exploration.
The portrait of Evans Mbuga is part of a series that Marion Boehm has devoted to artists she has met over the years. Like her portraits of Barthélémy Toguo and Serge Attukwei Clottey, this work bears witness to her interest in other artists (major figures on the contemporary African scene) and in other careers that feed into her artistic thinking. More than a tribute, this portrait also embodies an encounter and celebrates the aura of the artists in a more global way.
