We have the right to be nasty when it's to alert. My drawings photograph the assholes so that we laugh at them." DRAN, interview with Jean-Daniel Beauvallet, 2011 FR A critical and scathing observer of society, DRAN paints acerbic and cynical visions of human relationships in contemporary society, the society that Guy Debord described as the Society of the Spectacle. He criticises its shortcomings, its changes, its political, economic and religious approaches, as well as the news stories that litter its pages. His intervention at the heart of the Inside exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo left a lasting impression. His work is a series of sketches conveying a corrosive message. The grimacing, dreaming children are threatened by the world around them. Between dream and nightmare, between gentleness and provocation, between violence and humour, society and its violence are imposed on them. His characters confront the harshness and absurdity of the world around them. DRAN's eye examines and analyses contemporary society through a critical lens. Recurring themes such as the environment, consumerism, politics and religion are dissected in his work.
