Cydne Jasmin Coleby was born in 1993 in the Bahamas. Trained as a graphic artist, she has developed a mixed media practice combining collage, photography and painting, through which she explores family legacies and intergenerational trauma.
Her work is based on intimate narratives, which she collects and reinterprets to create fragmented compositions in which bodies are recomposed. By integrating her own body with family archives, she questions the construction of identity and the persistence of transmitted patterns.
The work presented here is part of the 'Family Matters' series, in which the artist explores these questions of filiation, memory and transmission. It is distinguished by its rich materials: gold leaf, sequins and a variety of textiles, some from the Bahamas, echoing the artist's origins. These enrich the surface and reinforce the symbolic dimension of the composition.
At the crossroads of the intimate and the political, her work also addresses representations of the black female body and the dynamics of self-assertion. Cydne Jasmin Coleby's bold, multi-faceted aesthetic offers a sensitive reflection on memory, healing and transformation.
