The eldest daughter of Australia's most famous artist, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Gabriella began painting at an early age, helping her father to complete the pointillist backgrounds on his canvases.
Her father, one of the most meticulous artists in the Central Desert, passed on to her a taste for particularly well-crafted backgrounds using different techniques, as well as a great sense of colour inspired by the bush.
Gabriella's paintings depict the "Dream Stories" of her paternal grandmother, Long Rose Nungala, as well as the stories taught to her by the other elderly women around her during her years of initiation.
Here the theme is that of the Seven Dreaming Sisters (the Milky Way), constellation of the Pleïades. An old man, Tjakamarra, pursued a family of seven young Napaltjari sisters with the intention of moving in with them, as they had the right kinship with him.
They ran into the sky to escape him. He followed them and was transformed into The Morning Star and the girls into the constellation of the Seven Sisters. It is said that the stars of the Seven Sisters very quickly touched the land of the desert communities and so all the women learned this story.
