Provenance: Deepest Darkest Gallery, Cape Town Acquired from the latter by the current owner Exhibitions : AKAA Paris, 21-23 October 2022, Deepest Darkest Gallery, stand B12 FR Hannalie Taute, born in 1977 in South Africa, is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work is characterised by the use of recycled inner tubes and handmade embroidery, which she assembles into works that are both organic and ambivalent. By confronting industrial materials with domestic gestures, she creates hybrid forms in which rubber represents skin, while embroidery acts as a language that is both restorative and subversive. The work on show features a strong visual dialogue with ancient African masks, whose forms and presences are reinterpreted in a contemporary composition. Combined with archive images, these elements introduce a reflection on cultural transmission, collective memory and traces of the past. References to ritual objects mingle with fragments of history, creating a tension between heritage and reappropriation. Her compositions are both intimate and sculptural, exploring notions of memory, identity and narrative through a very physical relationship with the materials. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in South Africa and internationally, and is now part of several public and private collections.
