Description
Daredevil #46, page 3 Marvel Comics Gene Colan (1926–2011) Indian ink on Bristol board. Daredevil escapes from a prison hospital. Gene Colan remains one of the artists most closely associated with Daredevil. From 1966 onwards, he gave the character a instantly recognisable silhouette and atmosphere, characterised by thick shadows, brush-stroke shading and dynamic figures that break out of the panel borders. Nicknamed ‘Gentleman Gene’, Colan had a sense of panel layout reminiscent of cinema. This escape scene is a fine example of this. A page from the late 1960s, by the artist who left his mark on the character for a whole generation of readers. Publication annotations, including ‘CONTINUED AFTER NEXT PAGE’.
