Description
The Savage Sword of Conan #89, page 28 Marvel Comics, 1983 John Buscema (1927–2002) Indian ink on Bristol board, hatching and wash. In this spread, Conan questions the crew of a ship about the woman he is searching for. We then see a caravan of slave traders in the desert, followed by Conan and his companions heading towards Kheshatta in Stygia. Launched in 1974, *The Savage Sword of Conan* was published in black and white, in magazine format. This format was not subject to the Comics Code and allowed artists greater freedom with shading and washes. The character was created in 1932 by Robert E. Howard in *Weird Tales*. Numbered ‘28’ in red pencil and ‘22’ in the top right-hand corner, with a marking cross made with sticky tape. 43.5 x 29.2 cm
